Taking It to the Next Level
Sometimes it’s the small things that have the most impact. A new hire who has a disability may have heightened pre-first day jitters because it’s possible they've had a negative workplace experience in the past. While it may take a little more time and effort to organize things for a new hire, this investment is worth it.
Enhance the Pre-Boarding Experience:
- Personalize the Job Offer Call: When extending a job offer, go beyond the basics. Share essential first-day details such as whether they need to bring lunch, the best local coffee spots, and convenient parking options for cars or bikes.
- Send a Thoughtful Welcome Package: Before the new hire's first day, surprise them with a welcome package. Consider including a personalized card signed by the team, a company-branded reusable mug, and a notebook with a pen to set them up for success.
- Provide a Workplace Tour: Offer a pre-start tour of the workplace to familiarize them with their new environment. Highlight key areas such as accessible and non-gendered washroom facilities, helping them feel comfortable and included from day one.
